Atmosphere, stunning scenery, lake, islands, hills and mountains, it’s difficult to describe in words what you see when you arrive at Lake Maggiore. Whether you approach from the Carpugnino motorway exit or from the Arona-Stresa main road, the scenario that opens up will take your breath away, in fact rivers of ink have been consumed to describe the beauty of our Lake and the Gulf of Borromeo in particular.

Our consortium operates daily in this enchanting scenario, offering a professional passenger transport service run by courteous enthusiastic staff. Every day our aim is to provide the best possible service to ensure you have a memorable stay; obviously visiting the islands will be the highlight of your holiday, but our commitment to problem-free travel will make your time with us even more enjoyable.

Gulf of Borromeo

The Gulf of Borromeo is in the middle part of Lake Maggiore, between Stresa and Verbania Pallanza. Within the Gulf are the Borromean Islands: Isola Bella (surface area 6.4 hectares), Isola dei Pescatori (3.4 hectares) and Isola Madre (7.8 hectares). In the sixteenth century the Borromeo family became the owner of Isola Bella and Isola Madre, and began transforming them by building palaces and gardens.

Isola Bella

On Isola Bella visitors can tour the thirty or so main rooms of the palace, on two floors (throne room, armoury, room where Napoleon slept, music room, Flemish tapestry room, etc.). Recently the "generale Berthier" gallery has also been opened to the public. The Baroque garden of Isola Bella with its 10 terraces is considered the most beautiful of its type in Italy.

Isola Madre

Isola Madre is dominated by the English-style botanical garden, with thousands of plants and flowers, while the palace features period furniture and the puppet theatre. In the gardens of Isola Madre, peacocks, pheasants and parrots mingle with the visitors, adding a further touch of colour.

Isola Pescatori

The typical village of Isola Pescatori is still home to roughly 50 inhabitants. Its origins go back to the sixth century, and today its ancient alleys can still be seen, with shops and numerous restaurants offering mainly fish from the Lake. The small church dedicated to St. Victor is also well worth a visit.

All that remains for us to do is to invite you to Stresa, to Piazzale Lido to be more precise, alongside the cableway that goes up to Monte Mottarone, so that you can get to know the islands: Isola Madre, Isola dei Pescatori and Isola Bella. Only by visiting them in person will you be able to appreciate the efforts made by so many people over five centuries to further embellish this extraordinarily beautiful natural environment.
